AUTHORS TAKE OVER GREAT LAKES CORRIDOR
YA authors tour Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky with girl empowerment message.
Four authors of novels for young adults are taking a girl empowerment message on the road this summer with the GIRLS TAKING OVER THE WORLD book tour. Lara Zielin, Rhonda Stapleton, Christine Johnson and Saundra Mitchell will be visiting booksellers and libraries in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky this August, to highlight their girl-centric novels, and to talk to young women about celebrating their strength and making their own choices.
Mitchell, author of THE VESPERTINE (Harcourt Children’s Books) says, “Girls spend a lot of time waiting—waiting to be called on, waiting to be asked out, waiting to be invited—it’s time to stop waiting and start doing.” Stapleton, author of the STUPID CUPID series (Simon Pulse) agrees. “How often do we celebrate the strength and resilience that comes with being a girl?”
Focusing on pop culture and fiction, Johnson, author of the CLAIRE DE LUNE series (Simon Pulse) says, “Girls can do anything. I grew up hearing that. Now, I’m lucky enough to be doing exactly what I want – writing.” And Zielin, author of THE IMPLOSION OF AGGIE WINCHESTER (Putnam Juvenile) adds, “Girls taking over the world means helping girls understand that no matter what happens, they always have the power to kick ass.”
Throughout the tour, special guest authors will be appearing in some cities. New York Times best-selling author Julie Kagawa, author of THE IRON FEY series, will be joining the tour in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Debut author Aimée Carter, THE GODDESS TEST, will be along for the ride in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and fellow debut, RIVAL author Sara Bennett Wealer, joins the team in Cincinnati, Ohio.
From August 5-7th, the tour will visit Nicola’s Books in Ann Arbor, MI, Summer’s Stories in Kendallville, IN, and Barnes & Noble Livonia, in Northville, MI. From August 25-27th, the tour will visit Mudsock Books in Indianapolis, IN, the Carrico/Ft. Thomas Branch of Campbell County Public Library, courtesy of Blue Marble Bookstore, in Ft. Thomas, KY, and blue manatee children’s bookstore in Cincinnati, OH.
Each stop will allow local teens to meet and speak with the authors, and some stops will be streamed live to the Internet via LiveShow technology. All appearances are free and open to the public, and books will be available for purchase and signing at each stop.
